An Oklahoma Ghost Story The Floating Head My wife and I had been married less than a year when we purchased a trailer house. We moved it to a nice trailer park in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. The park was arranged a little different from most, there would be a drive way, that lead to five trailers arranged in such a way that there was no one close to each other. Because the park was new, there were very few people living in the park and we only had three of the five spaces filled at any one time. During the 3 years we lived there, one of the five spaces had four different trailers come and go. None lasted more than two months before the trailer was moved. Two of the trailers were moved to other spaces within the park. That is where our story begins. Whenever there was a trailer on this one spot, we never had any trouble. However, when no trailer was there, we had a visitor - a floating head. I first saw the head early one morning around 2 a.m. I was leaving the master bedroom to walk into the kitchen, I saw a head floating over my desk. It appeared to be about the size of a basketball. It had a white or silver glow. We have a few differing accounts as to the details of the face. I always thought it was an American Indian. My wife always thought it was Mexican. Later as others saw the head, most thought it was an early Mexican, probably Aztec. Since Cortez had been close to the area, it was possible to have been some one from that time. Or, it may have been a mix of Mexican and Indian. On the first night, I turned on the overhead light. The eyes looked at me for a moment, and vanished. My wife's first time to see the head was more dramatic. She had left the bedroom headed to the bathroom. I heard a gasp, then a hard 'knock'. I was in the living room fast. She was trembling. When she saw the head, she had thrown a book at it. Over the next several months, we saw the head several times and even made jokes about it. We soon realized that the head only appeared when there was no trailer on the one space. We decided it had to be 'lights' that were normally blocked out when a trailer was there. The next time a trailer moved away, it was summer. In order to put an air conditioner in the window, we had to place a full sheet of plywood over the window. Now, there was no light that could come into the room. Yet, our head appeared again. One night, several friends were spending the night. One couple was sleeping in the guest room, while our friend Dan was sleeping on the sofa. Suddenly about 2:30, we heard a scream. My wife and I reached the living room, just as the other couple did as well. With the four of us looking on, Dan was literally laying on the sofa, nose to nose with the head. My wife said, "Go away, we don't have time for you tonight," it did! I am not sure how much sleep Dan got that night, but the next day we discussed it in detail. We told everyone the story and we were at a lost to explain it, other than a ghost. About two weeks later, Dan was back, this time with a date. A couple of other friends were there. We were sitting around talking and visiting and having fun. It was very late, about 2 a.m. My back was towards my desk. The rest of the group could clearly see me as well as my desk. I noticed all four of our guests had become very quiet, with wide eyes. My wife was giggling. Without even turning around, I said, "Our head must be here." As they nodded, I turned my face enough to see the head. "Are we keeping you up?" I asked. During our time of living there, we saw the head some 30 to 40 times. In all, at least 12 of our friends saw the head as well. It was never a problem, never scary, often just 'looking about.' We never tried to make contact with the head, we just allowed it to be there. Later we did learn that about a mile from where we were living, American Indians would drive herds of buffalo over the cliff to kill them, rather than hunting the buffalo. So, it was possible the head could have been either Mexican or Indian. |
